SEA NOW! MUSIC TO SAVE OUR OCEANS
This year at SXSW, popantipop are teaming up with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to present our first SXSW showcase, SEA NOW! SEA NOW! will take place March 16-18, three days during the SXSW Music Conference, from 12pm to 6pm at Annie’s West in downtown Austin, Texas. Over 30 bands will be selected to present and create awareness for the Sea Shepherds. This gives attendees, performers and sponsors the opportunity to give back to the global community.
SEA NOW! gives its sponsors the advantage of reaching a large target audience beyond the festival itself. This is achieved by both new-media placement and popantipop and Sea Shepherd’s world-wide advertising campaign. In addition, by providing use of signage for all levels of sponsorship, and placement within our grassroots marketing campaign, visibility for sponsors will be high. This will create brand awareness and allow opportunities for financial growth for supporting sponsors. Not only will the showcase enhance brand recognition, the SXSW Music Conference will provide greater exposure for the products and/or companies that contribute.
SEA SHEPHERD CONSERVATION SOCIETY MISSION STATEMENT:
Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately-balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations.
WHALE WARS: THE SERIES
The television series Whale Wars drew in Animal Planet’s largest audience in the network’s history when it aired in the United States and Canada for 7 straight weeks in November and December 2008 with the first season.
The second season of Whale Wars saw even stronger ratings and growing success internationally with 11 episodes. Season 2 won acclaim from the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences as “Television with a Conscience” and also received a Genesis Award.
The weekly series follows the crew of the Sea Shepherd vessel’s documenting our non-violent direct action techniques that garner worldwide media attention in an effort to shut down the illegal Japanese whaling fleet and enforce international conservation law. The series has brought attention to this issue that has sparked a global controversy over the practice of illegal whaling under the guise of research in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
Whale Wars showcases a diverse group of people who are not always perfect, but are dedicated, compassionate, and willing to risk their lives to save the lives of the gentle giants
